ISL: FC Goa Appoint Derrick Pereira As Head Coach

FC Goa on Tuesday named Derrick Pereira their new head coach in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) season. Pereira, currently the Club’s Technical Director, had been in charge of the club during the season ending 2019/20 after Sergio Lobera left. The ex-Indian international, who was a former player in the Gaurs’ Super League table during his brief time there, led the team to the top at the 2018/19 league table. This paved the way for FC Goa to qualify for the group stages of 2021 AFC Champions League.

The 59-year old has extensive experience working with most of the current FC Goa players. Many of them played under him during his stints in FC Goa, while others were part of his youth team.

Derrick Pereira, the new FC Goa head coach, said that it was a great honor to be head coach of a club that he has been a part of for so long. It’s a proud day for me and my family.

“This is an amazing opportunity, but we still have a lot to do. I’m eager to get on the ground and start working with the players.

“I want to thank the club management and the club’s fans for their incredible welcome. “I am excited to start our journey together.”

Ravi Puskur, FC Goa’s Director for Football, said that Derrick had been appointed Head Coach. He is deeply rooted in the club’s fabric and has a great relationship with the players and staff, with the majority of them having worked alongside him.

He will seamlessly integrate into the team’s day-to-day operations and we are certain that he will continue to push our style of football. We believe that A Goan’s takeover of FC Goa is a perfect representation for what we believe. We are confident that he will be a strong leader and continue pushing the team towards its goals.

Derrick Pereira joined the club in 2017. He was the Assistant Coach for 2017/18, before taking over the role as Technical Director at the start of 2018/19 season.

He was the head of FC Goa’s Youth Development. Three of his teams were Champions. In 2019, he was also responsible for the India U23 team.
